we've just got an electric bill in for 318.95,,fair enuff,but its for 12 weeks,,and we have a card meter,,so how the hell they can come up wiv any bill let alone that much is beyond me,,,we've been on the phone to them,,they agree we cant owe on a card meter but says we must owe it cos it says so,,,,,what can we do ?? thnx

refuse to pay! As you and they both say you cant possibly owe them anything!! If they cant agree then its time for the energy ombudsman

have you just moved into the property
was the card meter already there when you moved in
if so it could have debt from prev tenant on it

Electricity prices have risen dramatically in recent years. It may be that your meter has not been recalibrated to take into account these rises,in which case you may be liable for the extra charge

well then its their fault innit,we can only use whats ever we use on the card,,and we've had 4 people round to read the meter in as many months,

Gas and power co's are the pits. I have done battle with the big guys most of this year and right now, in front of me, 3 months after changing supplier, the new ones want to come and read the meter because the big guys cant give them the one and only final leccy reading.

Its precisely because these services are expensive that everyone should check before they pay their bills.
