2-way switches

I am replacing the loght swiched in my house. All is fine except today when I started doing the 2-way swiches for the landing light, I kept getting electrical shocks from the wires when I touched 2 at the same time. In the end I turned the whole electricity off for the house using the main switch on the fusebox. But still I kept getting the electrical shocks. Can somebody help me understand why I still have power in the lights when the electricity has been disconnected?

I'm no electrician, but, I think perhaps your Electricity OFF Switch is broken...

Hi Taylo

Have you got more than 1 fusebox
or, if only 1 box, then which switch did you turn off............what does it say on the switch

First I turned off just the downstairs light but when I got a shock I turned off the whole fusebox so there was no electricity in the house. Something was still live. I've only encountered this with the 2-way switches as I've replaced plugs and single switches previously with no problem.

.............only one thing for it Taylo....................gotta get an electrician to check the box......................someone has connected circuits on the wrong side of the switch.............what else is there..................please get it checked for your own safety :o)))

IF you've switched the main off and you still got a shock, please get it checked out. This is how many fires get started.

Thanks Builder and Wildwood. Trust me, I'm leaving well alone and seeking a good sparky to come over to take a look. I appreciate your advice.
