Should the people of Nagorno-Karabakh have the right to self determination and democracy, or should they accept Azerbaijani rule?

It’s a messy “frozen” conflict with no ideal solution.
The “Artsakh” government has ruled there ever since the last major conflict.
Unfortunately it’s not a clearcut choice between “democracy” and Azeri rule

Quite honestly as a lad I used to vie against my sister in learning the capitals and countries of the world but I have never heard of Nagorno-Karabakh or its plight so I imagine there are worse happenings in the grand scheme of the world and its conflicts.

It's not a country. It's a disputed region on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, like the Kashmir region between India and Pakistan.

Caucasian rather than Balkan. I was there some years ago; it was pretty run down but not devastated, and some streets were still mined from previous conflict, but that's what happens after wars.

It isn’t actually on the border: that is a lot of the problem. It’s wholly within the territory of Azerbaijan

Yes,Ich,thats all in our thoughts right now.The conflict between two smallish countries in the east of Europe.Its not as if we have anything else to worry about,is it.

Azerbaijan also has an exclave Nakhichivan sandwiched between Armenia and Iran, so that a coloured map of Azerbaijan recognising Nagorno- Karabakh makes it look like a bit of it’s been cut out and chucked outside!

Armenians have lived in N-K for centuries. The Soviet authorities made sure the region was well ensconced in Azerbaijan territory as part of their policy of creating political entities with ethnic contentions. In other words, it’s largely Stalin’s fault ...
