Bobbi, a million years ago, I auditioned for Sale Of The Century at the Piccadilly Hotel in Manchester. I answered about two thirds of the questions (with an approx. 75% success rate) leaving the other two trialists (male and female)to share the rest between them. I came away from that audition believing that, if any of us were going to get the 'shout' it would be me. When the new series was eventually aired, I was shocked to see the female co-trialist on there. So I surmised that they were after aesthetically appealing contestants rather than those with a bit of knowledge. Watching some of today's quiz programmes, I doubt much has changed.
Not that i'm not aesthetically appealing, I hasten to add :-)))

I have to agree Ken , there was a young lady on last week when asked what she did in her spare time, answered”I eat chips”
Really?
I only watch Uni and Only Connect, these days. Might catch a few minutes of the Chase or Pointless when channel hopping. I have a habit of watching quiz shows religiously, then falling out with them quite suddenly and not bothering with them anymore. Never got tired of 15 To 1, though, when William G was hosting.

I just can’t get away with Pointless at all
I think they pick some of the dopier people for entertainment value.

They must do Naomi , the girl in the raspberry colour dress is TV worth I suppose
What about Countdown , Ken ?
Just looked on. I think the feller with the beard is quite nice!
I have been on a few tv quiz shows and applied for The Chase about 3 years ago. Not blowing my own trumpet, but of the 15 or so in the audition, I was by far the 'cleverest' and all the other auditionees expected me to be 'called back', but as you have guessed, I wasn't. It seems they were not looking for people who could win, but people with interesting(?) stories. One guy was writing a childrens book, so he could read it to his children(Gag!). This seems an odd condition for being on The Chase to me, as Bradley only spends about 20 secs at the start asking about 'you'!..., but hey ho... still, I won £10K on Pointless, so its The Chase's loss!

10k on pointless ?
I’ve never known the money to be that high sddsddean
William G Stewart may have been a talented producer but he was an awful quizmaster, mainly due to his completely random insistence (or not) of a first name. I remember one episode where he asked "Boxer Cassius Clay changed his name to what in 1964?", the contestant answered "Ali" and Stewart said "I need a first name."

But, rubbish though he was, he was nowhere near as bad as John Humphrys.
Question Author
Haha, stop while you’re winning a ILM :0)
I've never seen the money on Pointless go that high either.
Hee hee.
