Hill Street Blues, the original and definitive 'gritty' drama, and NYPD Blue. Perfect.

24 meh!

Breaking bad - awful

Peaky blinders - the accent killed me!

House was great until the last series

I do however love watching Rebus, Waking the dead, Prime Suspect, Luther, Line of Duty (I have an office in their building), Cracker, wire in the blood,

Is The Wire any good? I have a set of DVDs which I've had for ages, I've tried it a couple of times and never got beyond 10 minutes, should I persevere?

I got CD and DVD mixed up in my post about The Shadow Line😕. Of course i meant that was the only DVD box set i have ever purchased.

I don't think 'Kin' has been mentioned, yet. I've watched both series 1 and 2 and they're equally as 'gritty'.

I have the second series of Kin recorded, waiting to be watched

You'll not be disappointed, Barry.

Don't dismiss Happy Valley like I did for ages. It's superb.

Agree Maydup, Happy Valley is superb.  I may decide to watch it again soon.

Criminal Minds on 5USA mist nights is brilliant and can be absolutely terrifying at times.

# most nights

It depends on what you mean by gritty. I really enjoyed 24, Breaking Bad, House from your list and agree with Hill Street Blues although it was years ago and would add Sons of Anarchy and especially Black Sails.

Not sure if you call this gritty but if Game of Thrones counts then in the same vein the best thing I've watched in years is The Last Kingdom wiht Uhtred (it was on netflix).

^

Read all the books and watched each series, Prudie. Brilliant.

The Bridge and Annika

Barry and Ken - I do agree about Kin.  Series 1 was the best thing I'd seen for ages.  I had no idea there had been a second series I really missed that but I see  its in iPlayer.   Hooray

Actually I was wrong S2 of Kin is not on iPlayer.   Where did you find it please ?

barry100 @ 09.48:

That prog might have been an early edition of Rebus that starred John Hannah. Something to do with Nemo, the KKK and racism in Edinburgh, the GarB!

10C, I think you are right

Thinking again, I know you are right.  Well done and thank you

Rosie, on the 19th Jan it said 'Kin will be on iPlayer very soon'.

How soon, I don't know

Thanks Barry - I misunderstood  - I thought the second series of Kin had already been on.
