It looks to me that by public vandalism and constant race card playing and the examination of everything from Art to children's books. The - insert fashionable term for non Caucasians - people are in effect dividing society creating an us and them, creating real racism in place of what they imagine to be "racism"? Personally I am apoplectic with rage over their vandalism and systematic, flawed, dismantling of history. I am angered that politicians are so terrified of the "R" word that they'll go along with anything. Who would have thought that the death of a career criminal in another nation would ever induce the HOC to hold a minutes silence? My naturally tolerant nature is being sorely tested here, how many others feel the same.

I do.
I was with you, right up to the 'my naturally tolerant nature' part. :-)
Thuggery is thuggery whatever its colour or creed.
Absol agree, I turned the tv off when I saw the HOC standing heads bowed for a minutes silence , it has no place there at all !
// absolutely//
//people are in effect dividing society creating an us and them//

you don't know me Doug, I have some - someone tell me what I am allowed to call them - friends in the NCD, Nigerian Club of Dorset, I go to their BBQs - One of my favourite (white) friends and barmaid is married to one of them, I helped their kids with their homework for gawds sake. They have their meetings in our club. I'm worried what this is going to do to us all.

Thank goodness for your efforts, at least some children will be educated.
Feel similarly. But realise such pushing the race excuse hasn't seemed to have significant deleterious consequences in the past. It's worth noting that much of the unacceptable behaviour and fuss is by young non-black folk trying to be outraged on behalf of others; not just black folk unjustifiably opting to be offended by the portrayal of history. So one may need to remind oneself if one experiences feeling of animosity as a result, it's as much the book-burning, er I mean statue toppling PC crowd as anyone else.
Of course you have a, "naturally tolerant nature"...
you don't get it do you? This isn't about one man. This is about a difficult time globally. People of all races and colours are scared and on edge. It seems that the virus is particularly risky for BAME people and part of this appears to be because of the social and economic status of many of them. Then there is Trump....need I say more? In the UK Issues which have dragged on for years, like the Colston statue, which has been a local issue since the 70's, have come to the fore. The Windrush Generation were erroneously told they had no right to be here. THEN right in the middle of this...a black man is filmed being killed by white police and other white police stand by and do nothing. It doesn't matter what the man is, he is the final straw. I have posted this before but here we go again. https://www.stevelocke.com/blog/i-fit-the-description?format=amp&__twitter_impression=true
I wholeheartedly agree.

Despite the optimism of some that coronavirus would unite society and make us kinder in general it appears society is more fractured and more feral than ever before.

I'm aghast at some of the scenes that have unfolded in recent days and weeks ... historical heroes maligned as "racist", properties looted, public servants violently assaulted and if you speak out against such barbarism ... you're "racist" yourself. How did such an irrational and warped concept ever take hold? And how can society challenge such a deranged thought process when you have police officers kneeling to the baying, froth-mouthed mob and the HoC holding a minute's silence for a ne'er-do-well on another continent. You could almost say we're the architects of our own misery.

Excuses, excuses. Yes there have been a minority of moaners wanting to delete history in Bristol for a while. They are still wrong and their choice to be offended by statues and street name related to those who gave to the city is no justification for any of this. And neither is the present virus. As Brits they should keep a stiff upper lip and cope with pandemics.
Yes, it will have the opposite effect - but since the true purpose of this lawlessness lurks beneath the deceitful cloak of 'racism', I suspect the organisers won't mind a bit.
when people write things on forums like this one they could be anybody saying anything . the only one who know the true feelings of poster is the poster .So to agree with or disagree with I’m afraid I would not get involved .

woofgang: "It seems that the virus is particularly risky for BAME people and part of this appears to be because of the social and economic status of many of them" Well it doesn't help when they form a giant scrummage to do vandalism. ...perhaps, also. the virus itself is racist.
How can a virus be racist? It can’t think.......oh hang on......
I do agree with naomi though that people who genuinely care have been caught up with the “anything for a riot” faction, as has happened before with other causes.
"...killed by white police and other white police stand by..."

Two of the three onlooking polis were not white, pale maybe, but not 'white'.

Carry on though.
I do too TTT.
But I feel a little better after contributing a little something here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/mountedpolice…

She is cheerful but quite badly broken up, her horse is OK and on recuperative leave. We are trying to give her enough for a holiday.
