I've got a 30+ year old car where you have to slam the gears around and it has to be driven and I love it, but also used to drive my flatmate's nan's Toyota Yaris (automatic) for little journeys round London and it's very easy, particularly if you have a lot of start/stop. Also used to drive her Dad's big automatic Lexus and that was very easy, although you can feel like it's driving you, but it is a bit like driving a big dodgem.
New manual cars are fairly easy to drive too, assuming you can manage a clutch and don't have any joint problems.

learning to change gears is a vital part to drivng in the UK. if you dont learn then when you do go on to use a manual theres a higher chance of you stalling and maybe ruining the gears and/or clutch.
plus, if you take the test in a auto then you are only allowed to drive an auto. but if you take it in a manual you can drive an auto aswell. makes more sense to me to learn in a manual
