I'm not really,as it's the first time I shall be totally on my own. But-I've decided to spoil myself on the day-I will cook a duck crown with all the trimmings...and may order a few pressies to open....;-))

Does it have to be a bird? You could always have a piece of beef or lamb you don't usually have, a whole salmon some game etc...

We're going to have a turkey crown this year, all being well. The last couple of years, we've had Aldi's three bird roast - which was very good - but we need a change!

We're going to go stark raving mad and have a goose stuffed with a chicken stuffed with a pheasant because we are all fed up with turkey and want something completely different. It blows the Christmas budget though.

don't waste your money on goose, would never have one again. got it from our local very reputable award winning butcher who also gave me the cooking instructions for it. there was barely enough meat on it for the 4 of us, and what there was was stringy and sinewy. given that it cost almost £50 it was a total and utter waste of money, and this year i'm back to a supermarket ready basted turkey which have always been succulent and tender.

one of my local golf courses is shared extensively by geese, after walking in upteen amounts of crap I dont want to see the beggars on my dinner plate at christmas!

we went for a change last year and had a lovely joint of beef - yorkies etc.
it was delicious and easier to do - no faffing about with those pesky 'trimmings'!
But - I didn't half miss the turkey and cranberry butties, and the delicious boxing day turkey soup! Also, the house didn't seem to smell right! LOL
