I really dont understand the "botched execution" bit, surely a massive overdose of any general anaesthetic would be guaranteed instant death, there must be many drugs already on the market that would kill instantly with a massive dose. What's the problem!!

Yes ratter but they have had problems with those drugs, at best not working at all and at worse inflicting a slow painful death. Leaving aside the standard capital punishment debate, if a state has the death penalty then they surely must have an efficient method. The Rope+drop as others have said above is the best way any state has found full stop.

The case adequately accounts for companies suddenly deciding not to sell thio to America
so medical techs put up the drips - usually somewhere else than a vein - and they arent paid to do that I can tell you ! - in prisoners who may have no veins as they have been drug users
and the three drug cocktail - midaz / pav / potassium isnt something I would want used on me...
other than that..... yeah the system works quite well.
