I’m rather surprised no one has raised this ;-)
I don’t know whose side to take here other than to note that the Home Secretary is a proven liar ...
Which may or may not be relevant.
It also seems that the PM and the Cabinet Secretary had indeed intervened in this dispute, as so they ought.
And yet ...

Boris Johnson yesterday praised Priti Patel as a "fantastic" Home Secretary as it emerged a complaint was said to have been made about her conduct as a minister four years ago.
The Prime Minister moved to dispel speculation that Ms Patel could be ousted in the wake of her most senior civil servant's resignation at the weekend, saying she had his "absolute confidence".

Perhaps Boris should arrange for him to "go to court" over the lies he incubated stating that Patel had been barred, by MI5, from viewing their most sensitive files. A theory that was almost uniquely and officially denied by MI5. Creepy Rutnam subsequently gave a tearful(bless) press conference denying responsibility. He would would he not. If he didn't personally leak the false information then one of his senior cohorts did.......That makes him responsible however much he twists in the wind trying to avoid the chill winds blowing his way. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
// if she has annoyed someone in the "metropolitan elite"*, but that's broken logic.//
then hey it is right at home on AB !
I have worked OK "worked" with people and their secret agenda,
and after a while you find it a waste of time to discuss and meet because no matter what they say - you find that they have followed their own agenda
such as - they have acted against the interests of the group....
apparently sir P had a home office agendy that perhaps he followed too obviously and Priti got pretty angry
esp if it is " well priti you are here today and gone tomorrow and I have real work to do planning"
