Lockdowns
a quarter of UK is under some sort of lockdown restrictions.
Do you think that a national lockdown is likely?
I don't think it is but perhaps rolling lockdowns area by area are likely for a long time.
So tired of covid!

I think we are all tired of covid. The national symptom reporting app (not the NHS, the King's College one) one is showing miniscule flattening in its stats so hopefully the whack a mole lockdowns are working. https:/ /covid. joinzoe .com/da ta
My town (Warrington) is unfortunately in lockdown and I absolutely hate it. I have just got used to seeing my friends again and now I can no longer see them while all this madness lasts ! On local news this morning, they are saying local lockdowns don't work and yet they still persist in doing it. I'm with you Eve, so tired of all this !

depends what the government's goal is in having local lockdowns. local controls won't halt the spread, just delay/flatten it. if all the government is looking to do is slow the progress then there will be no national lockdown. if however the goal is to stop and eliminate the virus, much much more stringent measures will be needed. unless contact is practically eliminated the virus will spread, and keep on spreading until it runs out of victims to infect. such a goal will require a national lockdown, and probably one that will effectively put life on hold for several weeks - no sneaky taking the dog for a walk, or nipping to the shops.....

Can someone explain how me taking a dog for a walk and not getting close to anyone could possibly have any effect on anyone else? I don't 'do' close anyway, and have hardly met with anyone other than one family member - most stuff ordered online with a very occasional visit to a supermarket to stock up and keeping a distance from any other shoppers. During a recent local outbreak I didn't even visit the supermarket in our town for a few weeks till it was deemed 'safe'.

you are probably careful and conscientious, but there are plenty who aren't - not wilful, but just clumsy or forgetful. it happens. when it does, people meet, and the virus spreads. while we have neither this nor that situation of partial lockdowns and other barely thought out measures, the virus cannot be properly controlled, only slowed. the government needs to wake up and smell the coffee. if it wants to eradicate the virus then total lockdown is the only way. just playing with it will just prolong the seemingly endless situation we're now in.
