Choux, thanks for your response earlier. I feel so sorry for the queen. What with the relatives across the pond and the sleaze surrounding this, what an an awful time she’s going through in what should be a truly triumphant year for her.
I think the Queen is made of stern stuff and she has cut her son's public persona adrift to save the institution of the monarchy, as you would expect.

She loves Andrew, but she is a realist.
naomi, I was slow to respond as it was dinner-serving time and I am considerably slowed down by a recurring back problem at the moment. My thoughts on this matter always end up thinking of our Queen. When she used the term "annus horribilis" she could not have envisaged how many times it would recur in her reign.
Lest we forget, andy, the Queen is human.
If he's going to court, it makes sense that he goes as a private citizen. If he were to go with all his royalty and army titles intact it would be as if those institutions were also being judged.

That's why it's happened before it goes to court.
HM has never put a foot wrong and done our nation proud but her family have let her down badly. Andrew is bothered about himself, nobody else.
I feel angry and what they have done to her.
Poor woman.
she's done a good job as queen, ladybirder, but I wonder if she's been such a great mother. Anne's really the only one who's turned out to be monarch material (apart from being born female). The others seem to have lived remarkably messy lives in public.
ladybirder, I agree with you entirely.

jno, I cannot say the same for your post above.
They're human beings. All these problems have always existed in the monarchy, as they do in most families, but until fairly recently they've been kept hidden.

Expecting them to be perfect is ridiculous.
choux, I'm pretty sure I'd be saying the same thing about the Joneses next door if most of their kids turned out to be self-centred and emotionally incontient: that maybe bad parenting had something to do with it.

The royals have an awful history of raising children. As far as I know Elizabeth was a much loved child, but George V said something like "I was scared of my father and my sons will damn well be scared of me". Edward VII was a tearaway libertine and his mother blamed him for his father's early death. Victoria's own upbringing was very weird. And the Georges all loathed both their parents and their children.

So far, Diana seems to have been the best parent of the lot.
imo, jno, your opinion and tuppence wouldn't get your hair cut. Thank goodness we are not all the same.
how do you think her kids turned out, choux? As I said, my opinion is that Anne was by far the best suited to being a monarch.
I believe that Charles is shaping up quite nicely now. HM has accepted well The Duchess of Cornwall, even bestowing her with the Most Notable Order of the Garter. HM will leave nothing outstanding when she departs this world.
Anne is definitely a chip off the old block, but maybe the block is her father. She shares her work ethic with HM.
Edward, after perhaps a faltering start, married very well and his wife appears to have an extremely close relationship with HM. Lady Louise shares a love of horses.
Andrew - well, pass.
I think Charles is going to be a weak king, interfering with independent institutions by sending them petty letters of complaint - he's known to do a lot of this already. (I do agree with him about much modern architecture, though.) I also don't think he'll be in the job long: he's not as healthy as his parents (says my mole in the palace).

I'll have to take your word about Edward; he used to seem a bit dim to me, but maybe he's doing the family job okay. Andrew wasn't bad as a B2B arranger, he has his mother's knack for names and jobs, but unfortunately that no longer matters.

Anne's still the only one I rate, though. She's had her own share of marital mistakes but she has the sense to shut up about them and get on with the job. She's the only one I'd invite to dinner. (Needless to say, she wouldn't come.)
jno Anne would never have made a good Queen, she doesn't have the temperament.
I'd rather invite Edward and Sophie to dinner as they seem very pleasant and apart from Edwards outburst when he did It's a knockout, I think he seems quite approachable now.
I am disappointed to see Andrew keeps the title of The Order of the Garter and the rank of Vice Admiral of the Navy:

My post at 17:53 appears to be confirmed and extended to include Prince William, rightly so, imo.

Such a sad day for our Monarchy.

Air-miles-Andy has had his wings clipped for now.
Randy Andy stuffed up big time.
The price needs to be paid.
so it would seem ^^
time for Andrew to slink off and hide under a damp stone somewhere in a land far away... odious little man ..pompous arrogant and has finally been dished what he deserves... I knew an equerry that told me many a tale Andy's goings on.. poor Queen...
Surely there's a down trodden little country that the Monarchy still control that Randy Andy could be sent to, to prove he's still useful?
Who knows??
