Thousands are pouring into Southern Europe notably Italy and Malta. They say they cannot cope with the huge numbers and have made a request to Britain to take a fair share, We have refused so far to take any!

Is this the right policy?
Why do they insist on coming to Europe when they could easily travel next door to Egypt?

They'll be here anyway, once they find out we are the softest touch in Europe. EU rules are quite clear they should apply for asylum in the first safe country, in this case Italy and Malta but in reality they'll head staright for Blighty.

They won't go to Egypt, no Giro's!

i think we have enough here already that the tax payers money is paying for. i heard on the local radio that nhs were stretched due to dealing with around 3000 migrants each day. if we could only stop the government handouts then they'd stop coming and the tax payers money could be better spent on schools, hospitals and nurses etc..

At least five EU member states are opposing the idea of burden sharing in case of an ‘invasion’ of Libyan refugees and asylum seekers, according to details emerging from the EU’s Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting, today dedicated to justice issues.

Although Interior Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici yesterday declined to name the member states opposing this idea, Commission sources told timesofmalta.com they are Sweden, the UK, Belgium, Austria and Germany.

Six member states from the Mediterranean, including Malta, yesterday submitted a formal request to introduce an emergency burden sharing mechanism in case of a Libyan influx following the current turmoil in North Africa.///

I wonder when European countries will start to say "enough is enough" and mean it.

I also wonder when it is going to turn "nasty" and we start to get civil war in some countries between the "locals" and the immigrants, we have already seen signs of it in Italy with the Roma gypsies.

Don't be the usual reactionaries. They're not trying to get 'here' as in Britain. Tunisia and Egypt are the footfall targets, Malta and Sicily the ship ports. It's weird that the reported numbers so far going through are so low, and it worries me. Where the hell are the rest of them? They're all stuck somewhere horrible.

If they are successful in removing that tyrant Gaddafi, why should they want to leave their country anyway?
