Early Warning Txt

A month or two ago there was a notification about a txt being sent to everyone's mobile warning of impending flood, wildfire etc.

Did anyone get a txt in the North of England warning them of the floods they had.

Was watching a prog on nuclear attacks. The doomsday clock is at 90 seconds to 12. The nearest it's ever been.

my guess is the proposed txt isn't about warning of floods or wildfires but a nuclear attack on the UK

The last Government emergency text alert (which was simply a test) was sent out on St George's Day (23 April) last year:

It's possible that other agencies (such as local authorities) might also use text alerts but, unlike Government emergency texts, they could only be sent out to people who'd signed up for such a service.

There is absolutely no point in providing an "early warning" of an iminent nuclear attack. The likelihood is it would be made only a few minutes before the devastation occurred (and only then providing the civil servant tasked with organising it was not hanging out the washing or collecting their kids from school whilst "working" from home).

There is nothing anybody could do in that short time so they might as well die without worrying them.

I remember the 'four minute warning' from many years ago. Peter Cook did a good sketch imitating the then PM (Macmillan?)- "I'd remind some of you doomsayers, that some of us can...run a mile in four minutes."

Who determines what time the clock is at, what timescale does the whole dial represent, why are they trying to scare me with something I can do nothing to avoid? I have to know urgently - I may need to make plans! 🤣
