Update on my cat Mouse.

Good Morning,
Well what can I say, this little man is breaking my heart. He has basically been given a clean bill of health by two different vets, he has been screened for FIV. FIP, kidney disease, diabetes, his liver seems fine. Yet he is still be sick every time he eats [all apart from his first small meal of the day] and has now started to pee in the house.

My cat groomer was here last week and was so shocked to see him, his fur has barley grown back since his clip on January [bit of a problem child when it comes to being brushed so he has a teddy bear clip].

He barely leaves the house and has taken to sleeping on one of the Great Danes :0/

He's been on anti-biotics this week a I don't think the vet knew what else to do, silly moo gave him oral ones though [my brother and daughter had to take him as I was working]. It's a nightmare trying to get him to keep them down :0(

He's back t the vet first thing in the morning, I'm taking his this time! Anyone have any ideas as to what this may be?

Have they done a BIP x ray series they use it like a barium meal in humans to see the passage of food through the gut I have a feeling you might possibly be looking at a problem with the top sphincter of the stomach not closing properly or a blockage further down maybe due to a hairball that has moved out of the stomach but is too big to pass. It sounds very much like a mechanical problem. Also a vet that can do endoscopy might be a good idea if yours doesn't provide that service...

Has he had an xray or scan? Does he have diarrhea? I had a dog with similar symptoms and it turned out to be a tumour. It was worrying but she completely recovered and she lived for another 7 years and died aged 14. I hope you get answers soon and proper treatment.

No he hasn't been scanned or x-rayed, I'm assuming this will be the next step.
Oh well. will let you know how we get on tomorrow....

Sorry rattyratgirl, missed a question there, he is going to the toilet just fine... just in the wrong places :0/ My leather sofa, a rather expensive dog bed and his [pride of place] cushion have all fallen foul this week....and I mean foul! Part of me wonders if he playing it a little bit [how they do] there was an equal distance between the back door and his bed this morning....he chose his bed!

No cat will soil their bed if they can afford it, that sounds like he has no warning at all when he needs to go.... is it like slurry rather than proper formed poo

Awful when pets are ill - I know I felt so impotent and unable to help when my much loved, elderly retriever cross went all 'wobbly' and off her food. Vets couldn't find anything at all - but she was patently ill and unhappy.

It all eventually resolved itself and she was fine for another couple of years - never did find out what was wrong though.

Rowan, it's perfectly formed still and regular! Considering the tiny amount he's eating that doesn't seem to be an issue. Getting him to drink is a real pain so I have been giving him watered down kitten milk as he goes mad for that. Oh and he doesn't poop anywhere he shouldn't, just pee....I agree they don't soil unless there is an underlying, which there absolutely is.

Hope the vet manages to do something useful this time. Hope he's better soon, Lisa, it's such a worry when animals are ill. Had to smile at the wonderfully tolerant Great Dane, though. x

He really needs scanning ... if it was a tumour causing problems with eating and waterworks the vet would possibly be able to feel it... If the normal vets get no where soon ask for a referral to a specialist animal hospital

ask them to feel his bladder we had a cat who started to pee on anything soft it turned out he had a growth in his bladder like you we were back and forth to the vets with different tests and different medications , it wasnt until we saw an older vet he picked up the bladder problem , i know the young vets have to learn but must admit i try to see an older vet if i can

When my cat had a bladder blockage he was peeing everywhere but his tray. The vet said this is because they associate the pain of peeing with their usual places of peeing, so they try to go elsewhere thinking it won't be sore. Does your cat eat wet or dry food? Apparently the dry stuff can cause crystals in the urine to build up and create a blockage. Whatever it is, I hope you get him sorted x
