I once read an article on how to deal with face cloths that had gone hard, but cannot remember what the solution was. Does anyone know?

Put 1/2 cup Borax in the wash cycle follwed by 1/2 cup plain vinegar in the rinse cycle. If you live in an area of hard water you may have to repeat every few weeks...
At the risk of sounding really thick here- what difference would hard face cloths make when you use them?
-- answer removed --
that's called "exfoliating" in the beauty business, and costs money!!!!!
But surely when you put it in water before you wash your face, it goes soft again?

Are we talking about different things here as I'm really puzzled by it being a problem if it's hard or not when dry?

Thanks everybody for your contributions. It probably seems unimportant, but even when put in water, hard facecloths never really go soft. They accumulate soap residue. However, they are great for cleaning windows!
Cheers.
I only ever use a face flannel once and then wash it .. Needless to say I have a stack of
'em ..they are cheap enough to buy and I like them to be slightly roughish anyway to exfoliate my wrinkles .
I just wash them in with the towels and they never come out hard .Try soaking them in white vinegar before you wash them.
When they have seen better days I use them for cleaning and buy some more !

Thank you Shaneystar(again!). I shall give it a try, as well as trying the borax and vinegar. It's amazing what we find to talk about when all the crossword puzzles are finished!
I think life has become rather sad when the highlight of my day is washing the facecloths!
