What I am trying to say Ratter15 that no matter who they are, people in this
world of ours can say some ugly things that hurt other people. Of course athiests have feelings and compassion. You just have to learn to ignore what these people say because you know better. I personally cannot imagine anyone one saying such a horrible thing to a bereaved family
The politician in the clip might have phrased that better. BUt how could someone who didn't believe act as a chaplain and comfort a soldier who been mortally wounded and did have faith?
Sandy, I dont understand how an Atheist could be a chaplain to be honest, I thought that was a strictly religious post. However, anybody that is trained in palliative care would know how to deal with that situation with or without a belief in any god.
I read it as...some...Ratter and not towards all theists. Those comments were disgraceful.
If I were in a situation where I needed comfort as I was dying the last person I would want would be a believer in God.....that would annoy the life out of me on its own. Have seen it so much with my Irish, Catholic family. I would appreciate the comfort of a caring atheist...humanist..anyone who didn't mention God.....and each must have to his own. x
