I have to register to read it.
Question Author
Sorry woofgang, I’ll repost it differently.

(Mind you, it does show that andy-hughes is a registered Guardian reader. Who’d have thought it?)

Andy-hughes.

What in particular in the review did you find objectionable?

I’d like to know, as some of your observations could be worth pursuing.
I read it, as I read all the other Guardian links here - and I’m not a registered Guardian reader.... obviously.
so there are nutter men as well as nutter women.....what else is new?
Question Author
I suppose (woofgang, “what else is new?”), it’s the rise of the ‘man’s’ movement, growing up in parallel with the more legitimate womens’ lib.

You can read examples of it every day on this site, but I hadn’t realised how pervasive it’s become. And I think it is a real problem that boys and young men are being encouraged in their natural stupidity.

I didn't find anything 'objectionable'.

I set out my reasons in my post at 11:29 - it's simply someone voicing an opinion in such a way that it takes up an entire book - and I think the premise is on shaky ground.

Another of your pointless baseless assumptions - it shows nothing of the kind.

I clicked on the link and it opened, I am not a registered Guardian reader.
^Me too.

This sort of thing I categorise as 'psychobabble'. Best dismissed.
Question Author
As usual, no-one really attempts any counter-arguments, just the usual ad hominem stuff, always a sign that the ‘opposition’ can’t think of anything to say.

I don’t know why I bother.
I don't have a 'counter argument' because I am not that interested, either in the book, or in adding to what I have already posted
I like women, women like me. As it should be. Women are wiser, prettier, more empathetic, and compassionate, and always right.
i don't think my comment was ad hominem.
Question Author
Sorry woofgang (seems I have to do a lot of apologising to you!)
Rather than using a pseudo-intellectual phrase like ad-hominen, you’d be better off using a phrase like play the ball not the player; it’s more inclusive!

I have no doubt some men hate women, but it’s probably a similar ratio to misandry, so I’m struggling to see the reason for the post, other than for you to declare you’re so achingly right-on.

The fact is the vast majority of men don’t hate women, and vice versa - of course there’s a few, and there’s a few women who hate men too, but I would argue both are statiscally irrelevant.

What are you hoping to gain/learn from this question?
Question Author
Brilliant, deskdiary; you really know your stuff.
One worry about online groups of men sharing nasty thoughts about women is that men seem more likely to use real violence. Men are on the whole physically larger and stronger than women and physical 'superiority' like that is enjoyable to some people.
Also, people like to share their views with like-minded people, as this confirms their position. It can be seen on AB, where right-wing or left-wing posters come out in support of each other, sometimes with personal attacks on other posters or on third parties.
Question Author
Precisely Atheist. Such groups egg each other on, confirm their prejudices, and praise the actions of any who take matters further and commit some violent act against women.

And this IS different! Pre-internet such loonies might have met in pubs or at work, but now they can mouth off their vitriol 24/7.

But you know all this, Atheist, so I’m just preaching to the converted. I had hoped that some of the women here not already lost to the reich might come on and share their opinions.

Ah well.
