What Do I Have And What Do I Need To Take To Fix It?
9 Answers
I’ve self harmed for a long time, I have little to no motivation to do anything, I don’t sleep and when I do I wake up constantly without being able to get back to sleep. My moods can go from high to low in a matter of seconds. I can be happy on second, but then one word someone says can drop me back to depression. I know I have depression, but because of the days I’m happier than others, my parents haven’t gotten me any medication or help. I’m almost never positive about things. I hate socializing, or seeing people I know. I’ve stopped having the need for sleep, I can get up and get going after a night of no sleep with no problem. I’ve stopped being concerned about others and my own well-being. I’ve stopped wanting to do things I used to enjoy. My appetite goes from eating a ton to eating nothing, I’ve had increased weight gain.

How much do your parents know about how you are feeling and the self harming and is it that they haven't picked up on how awful that you are feeling and tried to help, or do they know and have they prevented you from seeking help from a doctor and/or therapist?
If you aren't able to get any help from your parents, is there another family member who could help you or, if you are at school/college, is there someone that you could speak to there?

I've suffered from depression for over 20 years, now, and have many of the symptoms you mention. You need to get it through your parents' heads that those who suffer from depression do not, by and large, do so 24/7. While i have many 'lows' my 'highs' are merely days when i'm functioning in an almost normal fashion. You really do need to see a doctor. There is no instant fix but at least you'd be getting the help you so obviously need.

No one really does without the need to sleep. Get too little and the brain works well below par. At best you manage to avoid feeling like a zombie, but it still causes bad functionality, bad decisions, depression etc..
Depression and lack of sleep puts you in a downward spiral.
Go get medical advice and make a start getting back on course.
