I'm having a bit of a debate with a pal about the ending of this novel so I'm seeking other peoples opinions on it!
What do you think was the reason/purpose of the interaction between Clare and Gomez near the end of the book (ie when they were alone in the kitchen)? What was its significance and how/why did Clare feel it allowed her to 'travel'?

I think he is just trying it on with Clare, as he has always fancied her, and one thing leads to another, but when she calls out Henrys name, it leaves him a bit 'deflated'? I think she realises after the Gomez episode that she truly loves Henry and decides she just has to wait for their promised later meeting, even though she doesn't know it will be in 45 years time.
I have just finished this book and loved it so much i cried at the end. As some one mentioned Gomez always had the hots for her but I expect she was a bit fed up with Henry dissapearing on and off for years and not knowing whats going to happen while he was gone. I suppose she just wanted a bit of normality in Gomez. Saying that I did think it odd that Gomez's wife still stuck around knowing that her husband was still in love with someone else!!.
