Naomi, I cannot fathom what you're getting at with this confidence issue but I will venture out on this peer at the risk of missing the boat completely and coming up all wet just to demonstrate that I am a good sport.
I obviously cherish my privacy. I am insecure, diffident and reluctant to use public facilities even where individual stalls are provided, not just for sanitary considerations and this posture is not much less apparent when among good friends, even people with whom Ive been as intimate as is humanly possible. There, Ive said too much already!
In principle I presume anything not explicitly specified nor obviously in the public domain is presented to me solely for my own consumption. Having found that others do not share this principle I have learned to keep my mouth shut and try instead to gather any perjurious information I require to draw any necessary conclusions from secure anonymous sources.
No man in this day and age is an island but I carefully guard my bridges and believe that others have an obligation to themselves, and I advise them to, do the same.
I have acquired a great mistrust for the ability of the general public to evaluate and prosecute what is acceptable and essential moral behavior. Even amongst friends I often find it necessary to explain my guiding principles only after which they begin to understand my modus operandi and typically sanction, if not admire, my reasoning in light of the once perceived ends served. I do not fit comfortably within the cookie cutter mentality.
