You could always right-click on the desktop, select Properties from the menu to bring up Display Properties, select the Settings tab, and adjust the Screen resolution to something more than it is currently. Click on the Apply button to make sure that it's ok before clicking on OK.
p.s. that's XP; Vista should be similar.
Is it everywhere, or just on some/all webpages?

It's on the desktop wallpaper screen, all web sites and the messenger box but not on any windows boxes

when i right click on the desktop there isn;t a properties option, i can't adjust the display resolution either.
Click on Start, Control Panel, Appearances and Themes and then change the Resolution. That's how it's done on my Acer.
WIth XP you can also use the Control Panel to get to Display Properties.
