I foolishly (that's putting it mildly!) downloaded software which tells me that the computer is infected/could be/ is going to be infected.
I would appreciate if anyone can tell me how to get of this as every page I open has huge dire warnings - leading to a sales pitch of course.
I have looked for it in Control Panel and the location is mentioned in Properties.
So how can remove it please?

Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs - Find the little bugger and delete it
You might not be able to remove it simply by removing it:

Malwarebytes will probably be needed http://www.malwarebytes.org/
^^^ "You might not be able to remove it simply by removing it" - um, I meant to say that simple removal may not be sufficient to delete it from your system.
The link that bibblebub has supplied to you, should ensure that it is removed properly
"... downloaded software which tells me that the computer is ...is going to be infected. "

yep, your computer became insfected as soon as you downloaded that rubbish.
Hi My friend did the same and he could not remove the worm because it had disabled parts of his system that adds or removes programmes.Check if you can download a free prog to remove the worm it is www.pctools.com it says it will remove the netsky fake spyware prog you have downloaded.
I'm not sure about www.pctools.com. I mean all their products are paid. They provide free scanner. In this case you should use Spyware Doctor, but it's free only if you will download it from Google pack websites. http://pack.google.co...n/pack_installer.html

Also this is a good read about Security Antivirus removal http://deletemalware....y-antivirus-fake.html

Good luck!

Thank you QUENTIN-CRISP, BIBBLEBUB, ANOTHER-VIEW, HUGHES 66 and MIGHTYZ.
The programme was called Security Antvirus.
I went on to the site you guys mentioned and by mistake clicked on another 'one' called Stopzilla..
Both of ' them '- and that description is mild - took over the computer and every time I opened a page they took over the page and would not f.. I mean go away.
Went to the local shop who ' solved ' the problem but I CANNOT download any antivirus programmes, I CAN get into sites using passwords and user names including AOL and YAHOO email but, I CANNOT get into my emails, I CANNOT move around sites I have opened and i CANNOT sign out of sites.
It seems that anything to do with downloading or uploading or putting info into a site anything which involves the internet is blocked.
I am using my local library computer as the shop has now had my computer 3 times and hopefully today they will be able to solve the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
