Do you install Windows updates first...before you fix any lines in HiJackThis

Its just something i would like to know.
If you have a computer that is infected......do you clean it first before installing windows updates.

(ie..if a computer running windows XP SP1...is badly infected, but needs to be updated to SP2 do you clean it first before updating Windows

Yes, clean it first then update (depending on what it's infected with you may find it can't update until it's clean anyhow)

(XP should be on SP3 now BTW, you don't need to install SP2, just go straight for SP3)

Once you install SP3 make sure that your automatic updates still work as on some occassions migrating from SP1 without having SP2 installed directly to SP3 it can uninstall your automatic up date function. If this does happen then a regestry edit to reinstall them will be necessary .
