I've noticed recently that whenever I log off, there is an update waiting to be installed, even if it's only a couple of minutes since I last logged off. Is something going on that I should be aware of, I've never been aware of this happening so regularly until the last few weeks?

I guess you mean restart or shut down rather than log off?..... otherwise, restart of shut down the computer.

What annoys me is a not dissimilar situation whereby I leave the PC and go to bed, and in the morning MS has rebooted it, presumably as a result of an update I haven't "OKed" a reboot for. Cheeky so & sos.
Then change windows update settings...
Where ? Which ? I'll do it immediately.
One reason could be the updates being unsuccessful - so they will keep tryng until it succeeds.
Without knowing what version of windows impossible to say.

Make sure you keep receiving important updates but turn off the auto restart.
Cheers. No more 3 am shenanigans now then :-)
