Musical note combination
1 Answers
Just using 10 musical notes, how many different tunes could be arranged taking into account the different types of notation(?) quavers, crotchets etc. An odd question but we have a sweep going on in my local!!!

If every note were a plain note, it would be 1x2x3x4x5x6x7x8x9x10=3,628,800 combinations Now you have to imagine note 1 is a crotchet so there's another 3,628,800. Now note two is a crotchet and so on up to ten so that's another 36,288,000 to add for every type of musical notation
Now note 1 is a crotchet and note two is a quaver. There will be 1024 combinations of 36,288,000 of this to add. The same for every other possible two note combination.
Then you go on to three notes. Note 1 is a quaver, 2 is a crotchet, 3 is a quaver say.
The answer to the question will be more than atoms on a beach. It's ridiculously large!
