Vodafone was formed in 1984 as a subsidiary of Racal Electronics Plc but became an independent company in 1991. For more than 20 years they have been at the forefront of mobile innovation. In 1994 Vodafone was the first network operator in the UK to launch data, fax and SMS services over the digital network. In 2002 they launched the first commercial European GPRS roaming service.

Vodafone made the UK's first mobile call at a few minutes past midnight on 1 January 1985. It marked the launch of the mobile industry and transformed global communications. Within fifteen years, the network was the largest company in Europe and the largest of its kind anywhere in the world. Vodafone offers deals with all the major handset manufacturers such as Nokia, Blackberry, LG and Samsung.
