Driving in high winds?

I was always told that it was dangerous to drive in very windy conditions (becuase of trees falling on your car, I guess). But when does it become dangerous enough that you should cancel dinner dates and stay in? Such as at Gale Force 8 or 50mph winds? Or have I just been scared too much!

Well, you wouldn't go out in a Reliant Robin HaHaHa!!!

Usually they tell you on tv when driving conditions are dangerous. If you drive a lightweight car, or a high sided vehicle then obviously you'd be more at risk than driving in a heavier or low vehicle (such as a sports car).

Avoid driving through countryside because of trees, watch out for powerlines and wheelie bins, etc.

Watch out for trucks as well. We tend to get blown across the road, especilly after bridges and cuttings. My record is on the M74 heading south near Beattock my wheels actually went over the centre reserve white line! I make that  a side ways push of about 8 metres! (I parked up at the next services!!!). I have also looked in my mirrors and seen the top of the trailer (the cant rail) being bent by about 18". Mother Nature in all her glory!!
