Anyone else really disappointed with this? Some terrible casting (Adrian Edmondson?!), poor directing and woeful acting - step forward Stephen Rea for a truly toe-curling 'posh' accent. None of it convinced me, I'm afraid; all rather embarrassing.

In the early 60s (60-63) Asimov was shared amongst the boys who who attended the book club at the Grammar School that I attended. If I remember it was all about robots. I also remember a book of short stories about robots by him.
Togo...it used to be so easy to read the Foundation Trilogy, but not now !
https:/ /en.wik ipedia. org/wik i/Found ation_s eries
He was persuaded to write sequels and prequels, so there are now 7 books in the Foundation series !
To make it even more complicated, a further three were commissioned by his Estate, after he died in 1992. ( I would give these a miss if I were you ! )
These are the ones in order ::
2.1 Prelude to Foundation
2.2 Forward the Foundation
2.3 Foundation
2.4 Foundation and Empire
2.5 Second Foundation
2.6 Foundation's Edge
2.7 Foundation and Earth
If you decide to plunge in, then let me know how you get on !

Well sorry brainiac , we appear to have pinched your thread. 'She who must be obeyed' gave it 25 mins and was not too enamoured.
Thanks for that mikey. I will give prelude a whirl. I know that I have read some of them, but at random. I may have to wait a couple of weeks though, I go for my second cataract op Thursday morning.

OK braynz - I liked it a lot
I remember the 1976 version very well - when I sat down and read war and peace - it took two weeks - anthony hopkins ( I ate his liver with fava beans that one ) was Pierre Bezuhov
Le belle Helene was a buxom wench and was representing France - their failed luuuurve affair is the failed French-Rooshan treaty
Maigret was Count Rostov
I marvelled at this production and thought it "better"
the eighteenth century interiors I thought were nearer what they would have been IMO
