I went into a book shop and asked the assistant where the talking books were he said this way and pointed to a shelf full of Tolkien books lol x

Hopkirk I have been there in a taxi when it was called Bombay. The vehicles all seemed to speed up and apply their horns as they hurtle towards intersections/roundabouts etc. Seriously bizarre!
i once rang my dad for something - early days of mobiles - and got a dad, took about 5 minutes before it dawned on either of us that we weren't related...
A female friend of my wife was learning German. She was on her own in a restaurant in Germany.When she finished her meal the waiter came to the table and started clearing the plates and asked her if everything was OK with the meal.
She said yes thank you and asked for the 'schnabel'. She thought she had asked for the bill. The waiter looked at her quizzically and wandered off to the kitchen. He came back shaking his head and said in broken English,"I am sorry the chef says he has no birds beak on the menu".
I once called a book store and asked "Do you have any books on clock repair?" The lady responded. "I beg your pardon, sir?!"...I don't think that I enunciated "clock" clearly enough for her.
