I've just googled 'royal wedding guests' and 'society wedding guests' (clicking on the 'Images' button in each case) to see how the so-called 'top' people do these things nowadays.
Looking through the photos, it seems that the wearing of flowers by men at weddings is hardly ever done these days (but, when it is done, it's always on the left) and the wearing of flowers by women is most definitely NEVER done in 'polite' society. (As my mother would probably have said "It's so terribly, terribly common, you know!")
