Tv Film On Letterbox Format

When playing a movie on tv and it goes to letterbox format is it possible to adjust the tv to fill the screen?

Usually yes but the method depends on your TV. You can usually change the aspect ration to chop the side off the picture or distort it to fill the screen.

We'll need the exact make and model number of your telly if we're to give you an accurate answer.

However a quick look at the menu on my (ultra-cheapo from Asda) telly shows me that there are various options under 'Aspect Ratio' (accessed simply by going to Menu > Picture > Aspect Ratio) so you might well find that there's something similar on your set.

Thanks Guys, I have a Panasonic Tx-142et61b 42 inch LED TV and I've tried changing the aspect ratio but that doesn't seem to change it very much. On a slightly different tack, when rewinding watching SKY Sports I get a blue box in the left hand corner of the screen showing pause which covers just the information I am trying to read. By the time the box disappears, the information I want has disappeared again. I know I can rewind it further so that it finally disappears but I wonder if I can remove it all together please?

If so would it be adjusted on SKY via my remote or my TV which is a Panasonic Tx-142et61b 42 inch LED TV. My Sky box is a Sky Plus box with all the extra facilities that brings.

why do you want to "fill" the screen.all it does when you do this is zoom in the picture and you loose around half of it (both sides of he picture),cant see the point of doing this

Fair point but it doesn't look right in letterbox format.

it would look right at a cinema it widescreen,
most movies are ok on widescreen tvs just a few are set for letterbox as they would have been filmed in "cinemascope" ratio 2:35.1 .whereas tvs now are 16:9
