Here in the U.S., the term 'pop rivet' is used for rivets to mend or join metal that don't require setting with a bucking iron and gun. These are, usually, aluminum rivets that are held by a special tool on one end and the other inserted into a drilled hole of the pieces being repaired. The tool is then squeezed repeatedly, like a pair of pliers, pulling one part of the rivet through the interior of the other part causing it to swell and fit tightly into the hole. On reaching a predetermined stress point the rivet snaps off lieaving only the shaft and head in the hole...
