People can change for the better but their deeds remain as their history for others to learn from. Imagine teaching a generation that they can be as bad as they want then change & it's all forgotten.

As murraymints has said, his legacy must be seen completely, not cherry-picked or sanitised.
The message that people can change is a very valuable one, but it does not come with the caveat that all previous actions are expunged and forgiven - clearly they are neither.
