Cousin has just left and was telling me her daughter who bought a Samsung TV had a fault after 11 months - so only one month left on the warranty.

Daughter brought it back to Currys where she purchased it and Currys made arrangement for Samsung to fix it which happened.

Now to me if a thing is under warranty like that surely it should have been replaced.

Anybody know - thanks

no, I don't see why if it's something fixable. If it isn't then yes, a new one.
Question Author
Jno - obviously it was fixable but me personally I would have liked a new one particularly because it was under warranty.
I sent a DVD recorder back to Riches with a fault and yes, they sent it away for repair. Same with a Samsung phone from a mobile phone shop. They don't have to automatically replace new for old.
Question Author
well there ya go - you learn every day - I automatically assumed you should have got new one.

Did fixing it comply with the terms of the Warrantee?
//Goods bought after 1 October 2015

If you're outside the 30-day right to reject, you have to give the retailer one opportunity to repair or replace any goods or digital content which are of unsatisfactory quality, unfit for purpose or not as described.

You can choose whether you want the goods to be repaired or replaced.

But the retailer can refuse if they can show that your choice is disproportionately expensive compared with the alternative.

If the attempt at a repair or replacement is unsuccessful, you can then claim a refund, or a price reduction if you wish to keep the product. //

I don't know Baldric - convo didnt get that far as she was only in for an hour and also in extreme pain with her knee - not that her knee has anything to do with it.

But she is a woman who never complains so I am little worried about her - is awaiting an ultrasound after getting an x-ray last week in A&E which didn't show anything.
...well, yes, we would all LIKE a new one - but that's not how consumer law works.
(And, if she'd bought it at Richer Sounds or John Lewis, it would have a FIVE year warranty included).
Question Author
thanks Mamy -
You're welcome, hope she soon has some relief from her pain.
Question Author
well ginge - think 237 sent his DVD back to Richer and it wasnt replaced with a new one - only fixed.

JJ @ 19:58, fair enough, and the Warrantee?
237 is a lady :-)
I would have thought that after repair a new warranty would have been issued.
Question Author
Jack - after the repair she did say - they added a 3 month warranty.
^^no jackdaw...the warranty remains at it's original length.
"237 is a lady" Ha, one can but try!
^^adding additional length to the warranty was at their discretion...it's certainly unusual and shouldn't be expected.

Must tell her next time I see her - if I can remember that lot LOL
