I met someone recently with this name. I had first encountered her name, on paper. Fortunately the name was easier to say than it was to spell. Beautiful, isn't it?

My Grandma had a beautiful friend here name was Mavoorneen(sp) - lovely lady.
Hiberno-English, from Irish mo mhuirnín (“my darling”) (diminutive of muirn (“affection”)).

(Ireland) darling, sweetheart
My middle granddaughter is named Niamh.
I also have an Aine and an Ailish.
Yes father is Irish!
So how you pronounce those names ? ^^^^^^
Aine is pronounced Anya
Ailish is pronounced Aylish.
Aisling
Aisling is pronounced as Ashling
Aine can also be pronounced as On ya
This is definitely anyah.
I'm Áine, it's like Yawn (yeah) awn yeah - that's my name as gaeilge of course
Boo-when my grandson was born it was announced that he would be George, spelt Jorge! My death stare did the trick, it's spelt in the normal way.
Well done horselady.
As one who has a surname which is frequently misspelt (even when you spell it out) and mispronounced, I cringe when people choose a "different " spelling for their child's name.
Isn't Jorge the Spanish or Portugese version of George?
I knew an Anye...she was mad as a matter.
I like the Welsh name Rhiannon.
Jorge is more Portuguese.

I like more Spanish names like Nieves ("born when it snows") and Paloma.
