So you can see if you've landed!
i open the blinds and shut my eyes ...
no idea..never thought about it..odd ! to save them leaning over to open them once everyone had left ? oh..and take your rubbish with you too please !! lol
Its for us to wave at the Airport workers !
It's a safety feature. They need as much light as possible in the event of a not very good landing.
...and even if the plane lands in the dark, the windows will give some orientation.

That's my theory. :-)
To carry on from your metion of rubbish, Minty. As I leave a plane I am always amazed at the amount of clutter and litter that people have even on short haul .
same in the cinema Donny..can't folk go 2 hours without eating all that junk ? lol
With the cupboard being so small, intimate really, one is forced to be tidy.
so you can see the land coming up and hitting you
( when it does that is !)
It's for safety reasons in that in the event of a crash on landing rescuers can see into the plane.
the cupboard is..cosy..

must be Prudie... never really given it any thought at all, but makes sense
Window blinds open for 2 reasons. So that passengers can warn cabin crew of anything unusual. On the basis of the more eyes the better and remember some cabin crew don't sit near windows during landing. Secondly, open window blinds help emergency services see into the plane if it has crash landed.
It's a CAA regulation Sandy. In the event of an emergency on take off and landing. Emergency service need to see into the aircraft to assess the situation.
Well iIsaid earlier that it was a safety feature. I just got the reason mixed up!
you did Tilly ! but still think so the ground crew can wave at you sounds nicer than..so we can see if yer deid !
Yes, Minty. Too true.
There is another reason, it's to acclimatise the passengers to the exterior light. Research has shown that when people have to vacate a plane, especially from dark to light, they slow down until their eyes acclimatise to the brighter light. It's only seconds but added together it can make a big difference in getting the passengers off safely.
