Apart from (hopefully) us doing trade deals with new countries, do you think there will be certain foods that we take for granted at the moment that will go up dramatically after Brexit? I will be interested to hear your views on this x
How big a rise is "dramatically" ? Anything presently sourced from the EU may attract a larger tariff and paperwork costs, depending on how intransigent the EU side of the negotiating table is; but I'd doubt anything would be that dramatic. There should be wins & losses as with any change/upheaval, but it'll all settle down after a while.
I see know reason why anything should - unless the supermarkets try to pull the wool over our eyes with lies about increased costs of importing outside the EU.
We import around 30% of our food. If Brexit affects the exchange rate in the same way as witnessed immediately after the leave vote, they we will see a rise although this may be short term. Leaving the Customs Union will mean tariffs on food imports which will inevitably be passed on to the consumer. It will also mean tariffs on imported agricultural machinery and chemicals used on crops, which could lead to higher prices on domestically grown food.
