Many of the private hire drivers around here seem to think that their god and his minions (peace be upon them) are watching over them and they can drive as they like without consequences.

Maybe Patel is of the same mind.

He'll have time to reflect as he goes handsfree on the bus for a while. :-)
A driver is required to be in the driving seat so as to be ready to take over if the system fails.
