I have a brand new laptop with Windows 10, today I tried to use earphones and they don't work, although ofcourse the loudspeakers do. The earphones work fine on my iPhone. Any ideas ?

Usually just require an extra shove of another millimetre or so in my experience.

Tried again Chilldoubt. Nope, I can't push them in further. The plug on the earphones seems the wrong size, very loose.
Sound turned on?
answer !

I've tried various different sets, not all being Apple. Sound is on. Very strange, I need help here, Mr.Sam is a Mac man, no idea about windows. I have googled , but does look a bit complicated. Mr.Sam DID tell me to get a mac...............
check sound in settings..you may have to enable earphones
As earlier check a pop-up hasn't appeared behind your other open windows
Plug in the earphones into laptop. Type the word Sound in the search box at bottom left of your screen. A 'dropdown' list will appear. Now click on Sound and another list will appear with your headphones as an item on it. Click to highlight the headphone box and then click 'set as default' followed by OK.

not shoved in far enough ? doh...!!
No need to be embarrassed. Strange things happen with Computers and there's often No explanation for 'faults' that correct themselves; sometimes by merely turning the equipment off then back on.

Anyway the main thing is you now have sound from your headphones.
