Filled it in, and although I know I’m scarcely fit, wasn’t expecting a “heart age” nearly 30 years over my real years.

Shouldn’t have done it, of course, as it’s just one more thing to worry about!

The stress of worrying about it will probably make your heart age go up ;-)

I've not done the online assessment because I've recently had something similar done at my local surgery (where my heart age is roughly the same as my true age). However lots of others here have been trying it:

....and the whole thing has been criticised as useless nonsense, anyway...

Ginge, I’ll be your pal from now on. I didn’t notice the earlier thread, and I will try and ignore it all. (I’m depressed enough already!)
Read this...you'll feel much better. It's all a load of fear mongering.

Thanks Pasta - Ben Goldacre is one of the few names you can aways trust these days.
There's a couple I trust...he's a new one for me.

His newspaper columns used to take popular statistics and myths and debunk them - in strictly scientific ways. Nowadays, he writes books and an online blog. Worth reading.

From pasta’s link, final paragraph:

Prof Jamie Waterall, national lead for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at PHE, said: “The heart age test is a simple way of helping people think about their heart health.

“It does not create any extra demand on GP services and there is no evidence to suggest this will happen. What we have seen is a big increase in people accessing lifestyle information, which is fantastic.”

Exactly. It’s giving some the nudge they need to address a sedentary lifestyle/poor diet, just another tool to tackle the obesity time bomb that’s looming.
my lifestyle aint good pasta - its all rubbish anyway
lol, pasta, nice of the Telegraph to offer their readers the chance to take the test they've just been rubbishing
Question Author
No fan of the Telegraph, but reading the article I don’t find the .’rubbishing’ anywhere.

Questioning is not rubbishing.

Only nearly 30 years ? Bah ! You're too healthy then.
:-( missed Chris' link.
9 years over real age.Should live to 91 without any heart trouble.
My heart age is 73, 6 years more than my real age. I had to answer 'no' to a couple of questions as I don't know the numbers but my doctor does as I get tested every year.
six years over my real age but I am 9 stone overweight.
I know it's rubbish there are other risk factors not included....
