Why Bother?

Received a Christmas card today from someone I’m not in contact with - why do they bother? Is it to make them feel good or like they’ve somehow done their bit?

Waste of money for a start and as it's my bday near Xmas I prefer the stash of cards I receive for that. Always keep bday cards up a week and love them. Xmas cards to me aren't sent with sentiment, often by duty or 'that's the list I stick to'. I donate to charity rather then send cards and line rotten mail's pockets with dosh. Sad old gittess ain't i?
There are a couple of people I have no contact with other than to send a Xmas card every year. They both, independently helped me through a very difficult time many years ago and I am still grateful to this day and they know that. I always get one back from each of them, so far. It's a way of letting each other know we are still alive I suppose. I dread the day I don't get one in return.
My manager at work never sends any cards opting for the "im giving the money to charity" cop out.
You can get a big box of cards from the £1 shop and most of us just hand them out around the office so it could cost her as little as a £1.
But she cant be bothered to even do that to show some appreciation to her loyal staff.
Im sure that £1 she saves will go a long way in her chosen charity, the money she's on she could afford to do both! Ha ha!
