Bainbrig, But it isn't.
No, danny, it isn’t. I suppose what I’m saying is there’s more to this question than legalities.

Oh course they should be given the choice then the ratepayer would not have the burden of keeping then alive
Oh course they should be given the choice then the ratepayer would not have the burden of keeping then alive Get rid of them
So by your judgement NJ, offenders should suffer as their victims did, so rapists should be raped, arsonists should be burned, GBHers should be beaten up, etc etc. Nice and civilised I must say.
By his comments, Canary, NJ shows that his persona is indeed just for this forum.

My pal Pete was a High Court Judge - so I know the measured, thoughtful, and judicious way that true appointees to that exalted rank address such issues.

Pete died young - but he would have been both amused and angry at NJ’s posing. RIP, Peter.

"So by your judgement NJ, offenders should suffer as their victims did..."

Not at all, Canary and you misunderstand me (which is probably my fault for clumsy explanation). What I am saying is that criminals should not be given the choice how - or if - they will serve their sentence. I mentioned the victims' (or in the case of murder, their families') suffering simply to illustrate that they have no choice how they served their "sentence" and I don't see why such a choice should be available to the perpetrator.

no I am still here
I didnt die - I moved

urbane and gracious as ever
No, the whole point of a Full Life Sentence is punishment. If they are allowed to take the easy way out by ending their lives, then they are free and not being punished. They are supposed to be suffering for their crime as they have made their victims suffer.
