But why? It’s ridiculous, it’s still cash from the same account. (As an aside, I was having a nightmare trying to tax the car and had occupied the only counter in the mobile post office for 15 minutes (of the allotted 1 1/4 hours that it is here for) and apologised to the ever growing queue standing outside in the wind three times). Bloody stupid idea.
The money laundering regulations have some strange conseqences. For example, when the old £1 coins were withdrawn I took 140 of them to Barclays (whom I bank with) to change them for new ones. However I was told that they weren't allowed to change them directly; I had to pay the money into my account and then withdraw it again.
It's easiest to tax your car online though:

Couldn’t tax it online as I hadn’t changed our address (so no reminder) and I couldn’t find the log book (not for want of looking) so I sucked it up and paid the £25. The car has been SORN since December, got it back from the garage, himself went to start it earlier and the bloody thing won’t start, gggrrr.
There are lots of such strange contortions awaiting everyone......in the UK that is. I am still unclear as to why car registration documents threaten you with a fine if you don't promptly notify the DVLA when "you sell the car". Yet the emphasis everywhere in the document and beyond is that it relates to you as the Keeper, not (necessarily) the owner (although the two may just be one and the same). For those (foreigners in particular) who want a laugh, the UK's regulatory/systems/management/etc. environment is a treasure trove.

Had a Vehicle Tax Reminder in the post the other day.
The car is exempt from vehicle tax, but I still have to go online and pay £0·00 by 31 March.
I'll have to wait, though, as it can't be done until it's MOTd.
