Leaking Water Butt

My water butt has started to leak and so, I have just ordered a new one.

Any suggestions as to how I could use the old one, or will it have to go to the recycling depot?

I never did understand how you could mend a hole in a bucket, using straw. Daft idea I thought, as a child.
