Can I Exit Airport Within Eu When I Have An Onward Journey ?

going from dublin, i have a long 10 hour wait in amsterdam untill my connecting worldwide flight.

i am a uk / eu citizen

can i exit / leave amsterdam airport and have a break into the city instead of sitting in the airport for 10 hours ?

It should be fine, but I would make a point of checking with the airport staff just to be on the safe side.

i surely dont need visa to explore amsterdam for a day instead lounging round an airport, ive 10 hrs to kill...

as stated im within eu, i think its just a matter of exit through immigration etc then same on way back in to airport.

just needed to ask to be sure

I have done it - the fastest route is to take the train to Amsterdam central (you can also take train to Amsterdam south then the no 5 tram or the bus from the airport but they are slower)

What you clearly are unfamiliar with is that you are freer crossing international borders within Schengen than to/from the UK which has a controlled border. For the purposes of your question Eire is part of the UK. Once you are out of the UK and into Schengen there are no border controls until you leave Schengen and you need not worry regarding your movements. If you had the inclination, you could take a train (or flight/ferry or drive) from Amsterdam to Iceland, northern Norway/Sween/Finland or southern Portugal/Spain/France/Italy/Greece and get back to your flight from Amsterdam without ever having to go through border checks or submit the CIA passport/contact/personal data required whenever you fly to/from the UK (I am assuming Eire as well, am unfamiliar). Enjoy the freedom once you are there.
