here in the capital. Interesting concept that has taken a year to do.
To photograph all Year 3 pupils in the capital and exhibit them in Tate
Britain. The brainchild of Steve McQueen the film director it seems a
unique way of capturing a generation. 75 percent of the schools took up the
offer, not sure why some declined.

My question is this, the way that art is exhibited means walls are covered
with paintings and they have done the same with this new
exhibition. What I don't get is you can't see most of it because
it's up so high. The project is attracting lots of the schools who took
part but how do they pick out their own school photo's.
It's total ***. put on by a token black "artist". It's one of Britain's leading art galleries & collection. Where's the art?
Question Author
not sure, but it classifies as such as it's on at an art gallery.
Question Author
how do the kiddies see their pics is what i am getting at.
// If you are a parent or carer of a child in the exhibition, we encourage you to contact your school who have been provided with the location of their photograph.//
Question Author
i know mamy, but the photo's are stacked ceiling high, i guess that they have other copies for the children or school, but how do others get to see them. I watched people craning their necks to view the photo's if you see what i mean..
I think to describe Steve McQueen as a 'token' anything is a bit low.
I imagine if the had them arranged at eye level it would lose it's impact as an installation and require far too much space anyway.
Question Author
yes it would, but to shove them near the ceiling is asking a bit much of the general public.
It rather depends how you view it, it's less about recognising and commenting on each child or class and how cute or smart they are but an overall picture.

For you it isn't working.

I will look for a better video online in a bit.
Mamya, lets not forget that Morrisey is one of Khandro's mentors. I've no idea why he felt it significant to mention McQueen's colour either. Read into that what you will.

Anyway, back to the OP. It's meant to inspire children to become whatever they want to be, presumably by way of them making it onto the walls of one of the most famous portrait galleries in the world.
I thought that we were being discouraged from posting photos of children on public view. It does say the children's schools and identities are not shown.
What's the point of this exhibition? It's not art .
Question Author
Zacs i agree, but I like to see a picture, painting or other art forms without breaking my neck. I find the same with other galleries that stack everything so high you cant see
the wood for the trees. I think the exhibition is ok, and don't agree with Khandro at all.
Anyhow ,how does he know that he has captured every Year3 child on camera. Were there no sick children or some off school on holiday ?
I think it does push the envelope of what Art is. Which you may see as a good or bad thing. It's probably as pop-art and controversial as Warhol's soup cans were in the early 60s.
Question Author
the feedback was 75 percent of schools participated, one assumes they got the pictures when all the Year 3 children were in attendance, other than that i don't know
Can't imagine why anyone except the parents and maybe grandparents of said children would visit this exhibition....and as they will have been offered copies of the pictures why would they bother?
Question Author
going on the news the gallery was crowded with people.
don't know how popular it would be but assume that the parents like it.
He explains more in a video from before the installation went live here.

Also hear from a teacher and a few children.
