An Irish sky is a dangerous one .. many a night/early morning going home from the pub, I have often nearly come to grief gazing up at it and nearly ending up in a ditch !
My parents lived in Bognor for a while - I tended towards the view of it expressed by King George V ...
The story goes that on his deathbed he was told, in an attempt to revive his spirits, “In no time at all you will be enjoying yourself in Bognor.” To which George responded, “*** Bognor”.
Indeed it is, Alav.......I have lost two acquaintances and a cousin to Kerry sky gazing on the way home from a pub. One full ditch....one river and one swimming pool.....how he ended up in the back garden swimming pool is a mystery.....x
One night I arrived in Malin at midnight. Nothing would do but we go for a couple of pints at the top of the lane. The Landlord always leaves the back door open.
It was bitter cold in January and the sky was blazing with stars.. a sight like I have never seen since.
Anyhow probably after 10 pints or so it was time to leave, about three a.m. if I remember rightly. We opened the door to leave and the snow collapsed in on us. It was at least knee deep. The only thing we could do was stay in the safety of the pub. After another bucket full we decided to risk it and go back down the lane.
You wont believe this but not a woman in sight .. they hadn't even missed us. There was us trapped in the pub all night and they didn't even try to rescue us .. we even had to make our own breakfast !
