I totally agree its awful the things this man said in his speech to MPs. I know alot of the phrases are grossly offensive and outdated. But one phrase he was critisised for I dont get why its insulting and thats calling someone from South Asia 'South Asian' Is it then racially offensive to call British people Brits or French people French?

It's a favourite word among some Sqad, makes me giggle.

One point you made earlier is interesting, I doubt there's more than a handful of actresses who would snap if a fan described them as such.

The industry has in truth reverted back a long way when all thespians were merely players.
So..........what is WOKE?
Sqad - // What is bloody "woke?" //

It's a simple way of saying "I am someone who is 'awake' to the injustices and inequalities of the world. Of course, I act as though I invented the notion of injustice, and no-one has even noticed, much less spoken out about injustice until I came along and started making a lot of noise about it.

"Of course, if I had an imagination, and a scintilla of self-awareness and maturity, I could look at the way I am speaking and behaving and see myself for what I actually am - a self important insecure bigoted uncaring (ironically) self-centered ignorant twonk who would do well to learn some history and shut up until i actually know what I am talking about - if that day ever comes."

As you can see, saying 'woke' is a lot easier - it pins it right down for you.
Thank you Andy.
woke
adjective INFORMAL•US
alert to injustice in society, especially racism.
Even better Ellipsis.
AH, //I believe we are given a false impression of the reality of its impact by the very same media that created it//

The media didn’t create it. No platforming in universities - and if the speaker is considered non-PC, as was Billy Graham’s anti-gay preacher son recently, that’s now extended to commercial entertainment venues; BLM and its penchant for erasing and re-writing history; men who choose to identify as women competing in women’s sport; not to mention that even on here we were asked to refer to such men as ‘she’ - even though they’re blokes - and we all know they’re blokes! I won't tell you what's happening in City offices, but not only are we expected to join in with the nonsense - we’re expected to join in with the lies it demands too.

Sqad, from the internet: ‘Woke’ is being //alert to injustice in society, especially racism.//

Unfortunately it hasn’t stopped there.
It's best not to use your own definitions or pile new meanings onto the actual meaning ... it causes confusion and bigotry.

> alert to injustice in society, especially racism.

"Alert to" doesn't imply action, but there's little point in being alert to something unless you take some kind of action when you notice it. The action is not built in to the definition, though. The action can be anything, from being quietly careful and observant of oneself, all the way up to exploding at every little transgression spotted in others.
"What is Woke?"
"It's a favourite word among some Sqad, makes me giggle."

Indeed. And I see from above that 'some' are getting carried away with their flourishing explanations and personal definitions. Cute.

On a side note, I see the National Trust is stands accused of being 'Woke' now. Seems to me a lazy way of attempting to ignore a point and assume some dazzling anti-moral high ground. SAD!
Trevor - // And I see from above that 'some' are getting carried away with their flourishing explanations and personal definitions. Cute. //

I assure you, I am not 'getting carried away' with my 'flourishing explanations' - as regulars on here will attest - I am always like this!!!

LOL!
The English FA has been irrelevant for half a century. It is run as a Gentleman’s Club, and is stuck in the 1950s. It is not fit for purpose in 2020, as was demonstrated by Clarke in Parliament.

But him resigning won’t change the organisation. It needs a complete overall from the top down.

30 years ago, the Premier League was formed outside of the FA set up. Primarily because the multi Million pound businesses which were the modern football club were being badly served by the amateurish FA. With that the power shifted, but the FA never learned their lesson.

The English FA which has never supported Women’s football (and actively discourage it) again were trapped in their past when Women’s football took off. That popularity was again led by the clubs and not the FA. The clubs realised there was money to be made from the Women’s teams, and set up their own teams. That was largely influenced by the US and Europe but the English Clubs were quick to catch on. But the FA weren’t. The fact you have a high ranking FA bod spout nonsense to a parliamentary committee is demonstration that he should not have that job, but more importantly, that the FA must reform itself.
Andy, I'm all for a bit of flamboyant magniloquence.

Just without the sneer.

LOL!
Sorry Trev, sneering is built in (please read that in a Kenneth Williams style!)

Lol!!!
