. . . remember that the driver might possibly be facing a few little difficulties in getting to you:

Poor man. It would have been good to see his actual rescue.
I don't do Morrisons.

Although you don't see the actual rescue, Tilly2, playing the video on that page shows just how fast the river was flowing and explains why he couldn't just wade to safety.
Yes, I played the video earlier and would have liked to see him actually get into that rescue boat.

I wonder how many angry calls Morrisons had over their non-delivery.
One of my relatives is an Argos delivery man and he has had to drive through some awful snowy conditions to deliver a sheepskin rug or something. It's made me think a bit more about the conditions that these people work under and the necessity of the orders being delivered.

Food, yes. That tends to be localised but perhaps people need to think twice about what they really do need. Home delivery has become a way of life and I suspect there are more white delivery vans on the road than ever before.
He was following his sat nav apparently. Its a ford on the river Wear at Stanhope. There is a bridge further along, but locals with 4x4 will use it to cut around a mile off the journey, but not when the river is up like it is at the moment.
apg, by Highbury Corner in Islington there's a wee lane a few feet wide called Hampton Court. You can guess what happened...

Here's what the ford at Stanhope looks like in more favourable conditions:

Shutterstock links can be a bit tricky, Jno, and that one doesn't work for me. Here's your image (I think)

You don't need satnavs for navigational errors though. I used to live in Ecclesfield (on the edge of Sheffield), which is just 5 miles from Wentworth Woodhouse (on the edge of Rotherham). The guy who ran the local convenience store got fed up with having to explain to numerous drivers, who called in to asked him for directions, that they were over 170 miles away from their intended destination. i.e. Wentworth Golf Club ;-)
that's the one, Chris, sorry the link didn't work.

We drove to see a friend in Cambridgeshire a couple of years ago, using our satnav and couldn't find the place at all. A phone call brought an apology: yes, the street address is correct but the village is not.
Buenchico I have no idea why they did'nt close the gates the river wear is really up at the moment.

At least they've got gates there, APG. I was driving a delivery van (for a Ford main dealer) some years back when I had to cross a ford in Essex. It didn't look too bad so, like the Morrison's driver, I started to drive through it. I managed to get to the other side but, having started out on the left side of the road, I was then on the right because the force of the water had pushed the van to one side. (I made a mental note to choose a different route in future!)
